attached motor and slots on the upper part of the 
littermaid boxes that act as rails.  the rails guide the 
rake across the box and lead to the waste receptacle 
that is attached to one end.  

How do littermaid boxes know when to scoop the 
waste?  There are sensors built into the motorized 
mechanism.  About 10 minutes after your little kitty 
is done doing his duty, the motor is activated and 
the self cleaning begins.  This prevents the littermaid 
litter boxes from starting the cleaning procedure 
while the cat is in the tray.  This will prevent the cat 
from being spooked when using the litter box.  If 
you spook the cat, it may not use the this box again.

Your cat should be at least 6 months old before you 
consider purchasing on of these products.  This is an 
automated litter box, therefore it will need batteries 
or an ac adapter.  The ac adapter would be the better 
choice if you can find a spot for it near a receptacle.  
Batteries are expensive and dangerous to the planet.

You should only use a high quality premium litter in 
these automated boxes.  The reason being you want 
all the waste to end up in the waste receptacle of 
your littermaid litter boxes.  Using cheap litter will 
give you just what you were trying to get rid of in 
the first place.  A dirty litter box that will require you 
to clean it.  

If you have a cat that is really against going in a 
dirty litter box, you could have other problems.  Use 
the products that you are supposed to use with your 
littermaid litter boxes.  You will have minimal 
amount of work cleaning it up and your cat will love 
his or her always clean litter box.
